With the high school swim season over, two of the coaches, Jen Passafiume and Jon Chatinover, took to the pool themselves for the first weekend of the 2019 New England LMSC Short Course Championships at Harvard University.
The first day of the four-day meet is for distance events. Each swimmer could choose either the 1,000- or 1,650-yard freestyle. Both Jen and Jon swam the 1,000, with Passafiume placing third in her age group (15:17.68) and Chatinover finishing first in his age group with his best Masters time of 12:52.94.
After the first weekend, the Vineyard is in sixth place out of 12 small teams. Next weekend (March 22-24) has a full range of shorter events.
The Martha’s Vineyard Masters Swim Team is based at the YMCA and coached by Rainy Goodale. Any person 18 years and older is eligible to join the Masters program and be eligible to swim.
