Islanders traveling off-Island, take note. Maintenance on the Bourne Bridge is scheduled to start on Monday, March 25, and continue through about May 23 (weather permitting), according to a press release from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Travel over the bridge will be reduced from two lanes in each direction, to one wider 12-foot lane in each direction, according to the press release.
Lane restrictions will be in place 24 hours a day during the construction period, and travelers should expect traffic delays during morning and afternoon rush hours.
State and local police will be on detail providing assistance to motorists.
Traffic signs, message boards, and bridge work alert emails will be used to help inform motorists about pending lane restrictions and bridge work. To sign up for bridge work alert emails, send an email to CapeCodCanalBridges@usace.army.mil with the subject title “Bridge Work Alerts.” An email alert is sent when there is a major change to the bridge work status or schedule.
