Makos swimmers earn third place in SEMSL Championship

The Makos swim team placed third at the Southeast Massachusetts Swim League (SEMSL) Championship meet in Nantucket on Sunday. Host Nantucket won the meet, with Marshfield second and Eastham fourth.

Seven of the 20 Makos swam in their first championship meet. Ten Makos placed in the top five, with three earning high points scores in their respective age groups.

Michael Calheta (boys 8 and under), Annabelle Brothers (girls 13 and 14), and Gabriella Carr (girls 15 and over) all won first place. Clovis Smith tied for fifth place in the 8 and under group, while Claus Smith tied for third in boys 9 and 10. In boys 11 and 12, Andrue Carr placed second, Everett Dorr took third, and Ronan Mullin was fourth. Oliver Dorr swam second in boys 13 and 14, with Ruairi Mullin placing fourth.

Event 25 backstroke, girls 8 and under, Ruby Glynn placed 12th. Boys 8 and under, Roland Georges placed fifth, Clovis Smith seventh, Griffin Stalgren ninth. Boys 8 and under, 100 IM relay got second place, Roland Georges, Griffin Stalgren, Clovis Smith, and Michael Calheta. Boys 13 and 14, 200 IM relay Christian Flanders, Jack Crawford, Oliver Dorr, and Ruairi Mullin won first place, beating the favorite Nantucket team. 15 and over girls, 200 IM relay, won third place with Annabelle Brothers, Sylvia Carroll, Gabriella Carr, and Olympia Hall. In 200 freestyle relay, the 13 and 14 boys won first again, beating the favorite team Nantucket with Ruairi Mullin, Everett Dorr, Christian Flanders, and Oliver Dorr. Girls 15 and over won third place, with Annabelle Brothers, Olympia Hall, Lily Haynes, and Gabriella Carr.
