The West Tisbury Fire Department deployed a tanker and both its brushbreakers to attack a hillside brush fire in a wooded area off Buttonwood Farm Road Saturday afternoon. Firefighters used water and class A foam to cut down the flames and then soak the singed woodland floor, where many hotspots persisted. West Tisbury Fire Chief Manuel Estrella III said the fire appears to have started from a leaf burn around a garden. No permit had been issued for the fire, the chief told The Times.

No injuries have been reported, though Tri-Town Ambulance stationed a crew on scene.
