Austin Designs is an independent company owned by Rachel Austin Baumrin, designer and builder of handmade goods. Each piece is a unique, original work, and is featured at the Vineyard Artisans Festivals and at the Chilmark Flea Market throughout the summer season. Educated in the fashion and costume design fields “as a young lady,” Rachel now returns to the sewing machine to create beautiful handcrafted products, including 100 percent organic herbal eye pillows, heat packs, and pocket pods filled in her West Tisbury studio.
Austin Designs was established in 2001 with a focus on jewelry and hand-stitched beadwork. In 2017, Rachel began distributing her organic herbal line off-Island; it can be found in over 20 shops throughout New England and the United States.
Shop on-Island at Craftworks in Oak Bluffs, Hatmarcha Gifts in Aquinnah on the cliffs, and now at Reindeer Bridge Holistics in Vineyard Haven.
A sampling of Rachel’s full line of work will be available at the Vineyard Holiday Gift Shop, an Island holiday co-op found in Vineyard Haven, and at Island-Made Holidays at Alley’s (summer shop and farm stand).
Island shows include Vineyard Artisans Thanksgiving show (Nov. 29-30), the Holiday Show (Dec. 21), and at Christmas in Edgartown (Dec. 14).
