The Makos faced off against the HammerHeads on Friday in what began as a pitcher’s duel. West Tisbury eighth graders faced off as Cam Napior and Tobey Roberts each gave up a first-inning run, and then held shutouts into the fifth inning. With the score tied 1-1 in the fifth, the Makos bats woke up and exploded for six runs, with Nathan Cuthbert belting a triple to clear the bases. The Makos led the rest of the way, and won, 11-2. Sam Zack pitched solid relief for the Makos, as did Finn Lewis for the HammerHeads.
On Saturday, both the Dogfish and the HammerHeads hosted the Lower Cape Blue Jays.
In game one, pitchers Nick Cranston and Ben Mulvey combined to shut out the Jays, 4-0. Parker Blake, Matt Moore, and Silas Abrams came up big with their bats to help the Dogfish in solid team effort.
The second game, between the HammerHeads and Blue Jays, began as another pitching duel. Cole Lambert carried a no-hitter into the fourth inning, but the Jays broke up the no-no with a solid line drive into right field. The HammerHeads were patient at the plate, aggressive on the base paths, and capitalized on several Jays walks and errors in a 14-0 win. Charlie Porterfield pitched solid in relief of Cole.
