Sculptor Jay Lagemann hosts a Sculpture Garden Party on Saturday, July 27, from 5 to 7 pm.
You’ll recognize his work, from the “Swordfish Harpoon” installed in Menemsha 25 years ago to the polychrome steel “Swinging Jenny” at the Field Gallery in West Tisbury. His work dots the Island landscape.
Lagemann built the harpooner to honor the fishing men and women of Menemsha as part of the 1994 Chilmark tricentennial. Two years later, the town voted to keep it in place permanently.
His garden holds more pieces you likely haven’t seen.
Lagemann invites the public to come see his magical sculpture garden at 18 Wequobsque Rd. in Chilmark. The road is located off State Road, a half-mile past the center of Chilmark heading toward Aquinnah. For more information, email jaylagemann@gmail.com.
