MVY Radio and Old Sculpin Gallery announce “Canvas & Chords,” a collaborative nonprofit fundraising evening, on Saturday, August 3, at 6 pm on the grounds of the new Martha’s Vineyard Museum in Vineyard Haven.
According to a press release, the night will feature over 50 silent auction items donated to both organizations from Martha’s Vineyard’s “most beloved and respected artists.” In addition, comedian Marty Nadler will host a live auction, which includes never-before-seen masterpieces and experiences. The evening will feature two sets from Boston-based Nettwerk Records artists the Ballroom Thieves.
“This is our first attempt in creating a major summer fundraising event,” said MVY Radio director of development Karen Altieri. “We’re thrilled that we can partner with another iconic Island institution, Old Sculpin Gallery, to pull off something really special that supports building Island community through the power of art and music.”
“We’re celebrating 100 years of art and music between our two organizations,” said Old Sculpin Gallery’s co-president Melinda Fager in the release. “The gallery is celebrating 65 years being open this year, and the radio station just celebrated its 35th anniversary. This seemed like a fortuitous time for us to come together.”
Some of the Island artists and musicians contributing work for auction include Allen Whiting, Andrew Moore, Alison Shaw, Carly Simon, the Rolling Stones, and the entire Taylor family. The honorary committee includes Joanne Cassidy, David Crohan, Margot Datz, Traeger di Pietro, Ralph Jaccodine, Marjorie Mason, Alison Shaw, Carly Simon, Kate Taylor, Livingston Taylor, Sally Taylor, and Allen Whiting. The guest list includes a number of Island summer luminaries who are sure to make the auction exciting and bound to leave an everlasting impression.
“Our two nonprofits provide so much value and service to the Vineyard,” said Old Sculpin Gallery co-president Meg Mercier. “We’re thrilled that we have a chance to demonstrate the essence of what we do for this community.”
