The Steamship Authority is issuing alerts both for the Oak Bluffs fireworks Friday night and the Falmouth Road Race Sunday morning.
On Friday, ferries that typically go to Oak Bluffs will be diverted to Vineyard Haven due to road closures. The following trips will be diverted:
6:30 pm, MV Nantucket from Woods Hole to Martha’s Vineyard
7:30 pm, MV Martha’s Vineyard from Woods Hole to Martha’s Vineyard
7:30 pm, MV Nantucket from Martha’s Vineyard to Woods Hole
8:30 pm, MV Martha’s Vineyard from Martha’s Vineyard to Woods Hole
On Sunday, access to ferries in Woods Hole will be as tricky as the road race will be running the hills near Nobska Lighthouse. Though no ferries are canceled that morning, customers should expect delays all day on Woods Hole Road and Palmer Avenue as a result of the Falmouth Road Race. The roads are closed from 8 am to 10 am.
Anyone traveling between 8 am and 10:45 am must be on terminal property in Woods Hole no later than 8 am, the SSA advisory states. The last bus from the Thomas B. Landers lot will leave at 7:25 am, and the last bus from the Palmer Avenue lot is leaving at 7:40 am.
Vehicles arriving that morning and passengers looking to take a bus will not be able to leave the terminal lot until the roads reopen.
Additionally, certain trips aboard the MV Nantucket will leave earlier than scheduled in order to allow passengers to leave the terminal property before the race begins. They are:
Woods Hole to Oak Bluffs: The 6:30 am trip will now leave at 6:20 am.
Oak Bluffs to Woods Hole: The 7:30 am trip will now leave at 7:15 am. Vehicles on this boat will be able to leave the terminal when the boat arrives at 8 am.
