‘The Basics of Global Warming’


On Tuesday, Sept. 24, at 7 pm, Peter Neilley will present a talk at the Vineyard Haven library titled “The Basics of Global Warming.” According to a press release, this talk is presented in conjunction with Climate Conversations in Libraries and Communities Responding to Extreme Weather (CREW), for Climate Prep Week 2019. Libraries across the Cape and here are hosting programs during Climate Prep Week as an initiative to raise awareness about climate resilience in the event of extreme weather.

Peter Neilley is director of weather forecasting sciences and technologies for the Weather Channel and Weather Company. He is responsible for the weather forecasts used by several billion people around the world every day. Neilley has both master’s and Ph.D. degrees in meteorology from MIT. He is an IBM Distinguished Engineer, a member of the Academy of Technology, and a fellow of the American Meteorological Society. He is a year-round resident of the Vineyard.
