Joel Graves wins Columbus Day 5K


Joel Graves of Edgartown was fleetest of foot among 44 runners Sunday morning in the annual Oak Bluffs Columbus Day 5K. The race benefits the eighth grade class at the Oak Bluffs School for its trip to Philadelphia next spring.

Graves won the race with a time of 20:05.1. Chris Cajolet of Vineyard Haven finished second in 20:19.5, Brian McNally of Oak Bluffs (21:33.4) was third, and Robert Rippcondi of Vineyard Haven (21:37.0) placed fourth.

Bonnie Kingsbury of Edgartown was the women’s winner, and ran fifth overall in 22:18.1. OB’s Corinna Black (22:37.3) ran sixth, with Eliska Suryckova, Vineyard Haven (seventh, 22:28.7); Meg Sarbanis, Chilmark (eighth, 22:40.0); Chris Hammer, Bronx, N.Y. (ninth, 22:57.1); and Louis Hall, Oak Bluffs (10th, 23:22.1) rounding out the top 10.
