
On Sunday, Dec. 1, at 3:30 pm, the West Tisbury library will host a reading by Ben Shattuck and Jenny Slate. Ben will be reading an excerpt from a short story, and Jenny a selection of short essays from her new book, “Little Weirds.” According to a press release, this event is free and open to the public. Books will be for sale by Bunch of Grapes Bookstore. Refreshments will be served.
Ben Shattuck, a former teaching-writing fellow of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, is the director of the Cuttyhunk Island Writers’ Residency. He is the recipient of a PEN America Best Debut Short Story Award and 2019 Pushcart Prize. His writing can be found in the Harvard Review, the Common, the Paris Review Daily, salon.com, Lit Hub, the New Republic, Kinfolk Magazine, CrazyHorse, and other publications.
Jenny Slate is an actress, comedian, and author. Her book of essays, “Little Weirds,” was published in November 2019. Slate was a cast member on “Saturday Night Live,” has appeared on “Parks and Recreation” and “Big Mouth,” and was the co-creator of Marcel the Shell with Shoes. She has acted in many feature films, including “Obvious Child,” “Venom,” “Zootopia,” and “The Secret Life of Pets.”
