The Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School (MVRHS) sailing team wrapped up the fall season in style by placing fourth among 14 schools in the fleet racing Allstate Sugar Bowl Great Oaks Regatta, held Nov. 23-24 at the Southern Yacht Club in New Orleans.

Foul weather was predicted, but never materialized, affording the sailors a beautiful weekend on the water with 12 races completed in steady 8- to 10-knot winds.

Lake Travis High School of Austin, Texas, won the event with 43 points. Lutheran South Academy of Houston (49), the Isidore Newman School of New Orleans (54), MVRHS (56), and Portland High School of Maine (70) rounded out the top five.

In 12 A Division races, the Vineyarders won three and claimed a pair of seconds and thirds in 10 top five finishes. Joe Serpa skippered races 1-4 and 9-12, and Miles Wolff took the helm for races 5-8. Trent Bilodeau crewed every race save 7 and 8 (Serpa).
