Nor’easter batters Martha’s Vineyard coastline

A powerful nor’easter is causing some scattered power outages in Tisbury, Chilmark and Edgartown. The storm has also caused street flooding and wind-whipped waves have battered the coastline. In Vineyard Haven, a strong gust even moved an ice machine near Gannon & Benjamin.

Thomas Hodgson, who collects weather data for the National Weather Service as part of group of weather watchers known as Community Collaborative Rain, Hail, and Snow network, said his rain gauge showed 3.37 inches of rain fell in West Tisbury during the storm.

Earlier in the day, it caused the Steamship Authority to cancel multiple ferry crossings.
