The Scottish Society of Martha’s Vineyard is going virtual for its 34th annual Burns Night supper.
Celebrating the 262nd anniversary of Scottish poet Robert Burns’ birth, this year’s celebratory supper will take place online on Saturday, Jan. 23, starting at 6 pm, according to the society’s website, mvscots.org.
A take-out Scottish meal of haggis pies, Stockan’s oatcakes, and Campbell’s shortbread, with optional nips of Scotch, is available by advance order on the website for pick-up at the P.A. Club in Oak Bluffs the day of the supper.
This year’s online event will include highlights from recently discovered videos of the society’s first two Burns Night suppers, in 1988 and 1989. The complete videos, on DVD, are also available for purchase through the society’s website.
Proceeds from the supper and DVD sales, as well as sales of Martha’s Vineyard District Tartan items online and at the M.V. Museum gift shop, support the society’s scholarship program for Island students.
