All in person activities at the Oak Bluffs Council on Aging are paused, but we’re still here for you! Call us for anything! We offer exercise programs via Zoom, and are continuing telephone outreach and response to requests such as pickup and delivery of groceries from Reliable Market, mail at the Post Office, and prescriptions.

Senior Bus Passes for Jan. 1 – Dec. 31, 2021, are here! They are $40 for those 65-plus. Every senior who purchases a bus pass, will receive two FREE Metro Transit Tokens, good for transit service only on Routes 7, 8, 9, and 10A, which normally don’t operate in off-season months. The Fuel Assistance Program has begun. OB seniors who need help with a pre-existing application, a first-time application, or any related energy questions, contact Rose. The center is also available to assist you with information on Advanced Care Plans.

Martha’s Vineyard Center for Living offers a ZOOM Caregivers Support Meeting every Friday at 10 am. This is a wonderful opportunity to carve a bit of time out for yourself and speak with others caring for a loved one, parent, or spouse. Call Leslie at 508-939-9440 for information.

OBCOA is working with Healthy Aging M.V.’s Home Safety Modification Pilot Program to complete up to 20 home modifications Island-wide. Participants must be 65-plus, and will pay on a sliding scale based on income qualification. Call Rose for information.

Pinecone Wreath class on ZOOM with instructor Diane Welch. Wire frames and wire used to adhere pinecones to the frames will be provided by OBCOA. Students provide their own pinecones and wire cutters. Start date is TBD based on participants signing up, and as supplies will be purchased prior to first class. Call Rose for info and start collecting pinecones!

The pandemic closures have impacted our senior community, but this is a necessary impact to ensure everyone’s safety. Stay home, be calm, and wash your hands. Protocols are evolving regularly. The Corona Stompers, as well as our resident fashion maven, Marlene DiStephano, have handmade beautiful masks for Oak Bluffs seniors free of charge. Call to have us put some aside for you.
