Local music educator Eric Mulhern leads a five-week course on “Music as Meditation” online via the Chilmark library beginning Saturday, March 6, and running on Saturdays through April 3 at 11:30 am.
Mulhern will cover the basics of playing the ukulele or guitar. A classically trained guitarist and composer, he will help participants explore how music can serve as a mindfulness practice. According to a press release from the library, you will learn how playing an instrument can aid with time management, stress relief, or simply as a fun way to occupy your time. Focus will be placed on the practical aspects of learning the instrument. By the end of the class, you will be confident in your ability to play several great songs, and have the tools to learn many more, the release states.
Mulhern is a local music educator, composer, and guitarist based in Vineyard Haven. He has a bachelor’s degree in music composition and a certificate in music entrepreneurship from the University of Colorado, Boulder.
You will need a guitar or ukulele, a Zoom-capable device, and headphones to participate in the classes, which are recommended for ages 13 to 113.
The library asks that when signing up for the free classes, you commit to attending each class for the duration of the course.
