Wanted: Island musicians

The Vineyard Haven Band at a previous concert. The band is looking for new members. — MV Times

The Vineyard Haven Band is one of the oldest continuously operating bands in the United States. COVID-19 delayed their beginning this year, giving the band the opportunity to invite interested musicians to join them as they begin the 2021 summer concert season. The band plays a repertoire of concert band music, which means their instrumentation consists of woodwinds, brass, and percussion, according to a press release from the band. They always welcome those who play clarinet, alto, tenor, and bari sax, French horn, trombone, baritone horn, trumpet, tuba, and percussion.

The band rehearses on Monday nights in the Oak Bluffs Sailing Camp, 7:30 to 9 pm. Concerts take place Sunday nights in the bandstand at Owen Park in Vineyard Haven and in the gazebo in Ocean Park in Oak Bluffs.

If interested, contact Vineyard Haven Band director Julie Schilling at 508-693-2352 or meet the band at the Sailing Camp.
