To the Editor:
I take issue with Michael Bellissimo of West Tisbury’s recent letter to The Times (“No excuse for former chief’s remarks,” June 30). Here is a quote from it: “Is exhaustion and outrage over the past presidency reason enough to not speak up and speak out when ignorance and injustice continue to rear their ugly heads? (If we allow that to happen, then ignorance wins.)” Mr. Bellissimo also contributed to the town of West Tisbury’s recent diversity statement, which states that the town will treat everyone equally and with respect. I call poppycock on both.
The town of West Tisbury has exclusive policies that don’t allow public access at Lambert’s Cove Beach, a town park. That is why I write these letters, not because I want to go to the beach there, but because I don’t want ignorance, and those who preach it, to win. Silence is my validation, end beach apartheid.
