On July 26 at 6 pm, the town of Chilmark will be holding a Zoom community meeting to “discuss the development opportunities” of Peaked Hill Pastures. This property is owned by the town.

In this meeting, options to create “pocket communities” on Peaked Hill Pastures will be reviewed. Consultant Karen Sunnaborg will be at the meeting to present different models for community housing approaches. This meeting will be the second in a series of three Zoom meetings. The first meeting was held on June 14, and hosted more than 40 people. The third meeting will be held on Sept. 21 at 6 pm.

The turnout in the first meeting was a promising sign to Janet Weidner, chairwoman of the planning board’s project subcommittee. “The meeting demonstrated positive and constructive support for the concept of creating a pocket community on the property, with suggestions including the creation of both homeownership and rental units with a potential multigenerational approach. We are hoping for the continued involvement of the community as we move forward in the process of conceptualizing this new housing opportunity in Chilmark,” said Weidner in a press release.

Those who want to participate in this meeting can access the Zoom link here. For those who cannot attend the meeting, a recording will be available on the town’s website.
