The Steamship Authority announced the winners of its sixth annual “Sail Into Imagination” contest. The contest was open to students kindergarten through 12th grade from Cape Cod towns, Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket, Fairhaven, and New Bedford. The winners’ artwork will be displayed in a 2022 calendar, onboard SSA ferries and on the SSA website. A limited number of calendars will be available for pickup at SSA terminals starting November 30.
“There are so many talented, young artists in our region and it’s exciting to see our waters and ports through their eyes,” Kimberlee McHugh, SSA marketing director, said in a press release. “As always, we are thankful to everyone who submitted an entry, and we are very excited to see this year’s winning artwork in our next calendar.”
Laura Reckford, executive director of Falmouth Art Center, assisted in judging the submissions.
The annual contest encourages students to use their imagination and artistry to share their “visions of traveling aboard SSA ferries to Cape and Islands ports.”It also gives students the opportunity to show their “artistic interpretations of growing up by the sea.” Over 150 entries were submitted this year.
In this year’s contest, one teacher was selected at random to receive a $100 gift card to a local art supplies store of their choice. The inaugural winner was Heather Raye from Barnstable United Elementary School.
