To the Editor:
In response to the letter from Mary Leddy, assistant director of the Vineyard Health Care Access Program, I would like to thank her for her acknowledgement of the new therapy practice that I am beginning, and her useful suggestion that all programs serving seniors join together to share information and experiences. In a study titled “An Analysis of Healthcare on Martha’s Vineyard,” which is being distributed as a reference guide, a need for pooling of resources and collaboration between agencies and individual practitioners was identified as a means to decrease the amount of services still needed. In that study, Vineyard Health Care Access was identified as the lead resource for assisting seniors to obtain needed services.
My practice, Practical Solutions M.V., is designed to assist seniors and their families/friends in making realistic decisions on how to accommodate physical and mental changes concomitant with the aging process, and to plan for some of the circumstances that they may have to confront in the future, e.g., home assistance, living arrangements, isolation, losses. When finances are involved, the issues of trust and acceptance of the need for assistance also need to be faced.
Thank you for the opportunity to clarify the purpose of Practical Solutions M.V.
