Bishop Feehan jumped out to a 3-0 first-inning lead and held off the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School (MVRHS) baseball team, 6-4, Monday in Attleboro.
The Vineyarders (0-4) had the bases loaded in the fifth and sixth innings, but couldn’t overtake the Shamrocks in the Eastern Athletic Conference (EAC) opener.
Vineyard starter James Sashin pitched well in six innings of work, giving up three hits, striking out six, and walking two with only one run earned, but the Vineyard defense helped the Shamrock cause with six errors.
MV got on the board in the top of the second inning after Sam Bresnick scored Chris Mayhew with an RBI ground-out.
Feehan increased its lead to 5-1 in the third, but the Vineyarders fought back with one run in the fourth and two more in the fifth. James Sashin singled to drive in Theo Gallagher and added another RBI single in his next at-bat. All told, he was 3-4, with three singles and two RBIs. Sam Bresnick knocked in the other MV run with a sacrifice fly.
Theo Gallagher was 2-3 for the day, with two singles, a walk, and two runs scored. Freshman Hunter Fox Jakusik notched his first varsity hit with a pinch-hit double in the fifth inning.
