Aidan Aliberti singled to score Elias Fhagen-Smith with one out in the sixth inning as Martha’s Vineyard edged the Coyle and Cassidy Warriors, 4-3, Wednesday afternoon in a pivotal Eastern Athletic Conference (EAC) tilt at Vineyard Baseball Park.

With the win, the Vineyarders improved to 3-1 in the EAC and 9-5 overall, while handing the Warriors their first league defeat.

The game featured a matchup of No. 1 pitchers, James Sashin for MV and Matt Braga for Coyle, and figured to be a low-scoring affair.

Jonas Lukowitz put the Vineyarders on the board first, scoring on a wild pitch in the first inning. Tabor Caron made it 2-0 MV in the second by knocking in Sam Bresnick with a bunt single.

Coyle sliced the Vineyard lead in half in the fourth inning, but James Sashin put the hosts up 3-1 by scoring on another wild pitch after hitting a single, taking second on an error and moving to third on a sac bunt.

The Warriors rallied with two runs in the sixth to chase starter Sashin, who responded by throwing out the potential go-ahead run at the plate, helping Vineyard reliever Chris Mayhew out of a bases-loaded jam.

After Aidan Aliberti put the Vineyarders back on top, Mayhew threw a scoreless seventh inning to earn the win.
