The Second Annual Buddy Harris Bid Whist Classic took place at the Portuguese-American Club in Oak Bluffs on Thursday, August 25. Committed to continuing Buddy’s legacy, his widow, Barbara Harris, thrilled to the attention and interest in the Bid Whist Classic as an annual event in tribute to her late husband.

For more than 20 years, Buddy incorporated Bid Whist as a part of his daily routine during his annual two-week vacation on the Island from his home in Columbia, Maryland. Buddy died in 2009 at the age of 65.

With co-chairman Duncan Walton of Oak Bluffs and Leonard Stephens of Silver Spring, Maryland, this year’s tournament was more successful and exciting than its predecessor, with early registrations required before game time. Winners, who hailed from as far away as Texas, Georgia, and California, were as follows: first place, Margaret Bush Ware and Crystal Silas; second place, Bobby Dockery and Gerard Peterson; third place, Marsha Gadsden and Frieda Morris.

Details for the Third Annual Buddy Harris Bid Whist Classic will be announced at a later date.
