Phone scammers call Tisbury homes
Tisbury police are warning residents about a phone scam received by at least two Tisbury residents this week.
In each case, when the resident answered the phone, the caller pretended to be the person's grandson, who was in distress in China and needed money.
"We always tell people not send any money and to check where their relatives are," police Chief Dan Hanavan said. "It's a common scam, it has also been on Facebook and in email."
Neither of the residents fell for the scam, but reported the incident to police.
