West Tisbury midshipman helps Naval Academy in gymnastics meet
Thomas Goodell, 19, of West Tisbury helped the U.S. Naval Academy's men's gymnastics team to a second-place finish this weekend in San Jose, California, at the All-Academy Men's Gymnastics Meet. The team score was (325.65), just behind the Air Force Academy (327.8). Third place went to West Point (317.6).
Thomas had personal best scores (at the NCAA Division I level) on rings, 13.75, which placed him seventh, and high bar, 12.6 (tenth). Although just a freshman, Thomas has consistently assisted his team's top four scores count in each event, on rings, parallel bars, and high bar, in three out of the four meets so far this season. Navy now ranks fourth in the nation. Navy participates in a meet this weekend at the College of William and Mary, in Williamsburg, Virginia.
