Hundreds served

To the Editor:

On March 26, 2012, the 19th season of the Edgartown Monday Night Community Suppers, held in the Baylies Room of the Old Whaling Church, concluded with a delicious smorgasbord meal. For 21 Mondays, the United Methodist Church of Martha’s Vineyard and the Martha’s Vineyard Rotary welcomed the Island community to evenings of hearty foods and great fellowship.

As coordinator of the suppers for the last five years, I have been blessed to come to know so many caring, community-minded individuals. With approximately 1,550 meals served this season alone, the true spirit of hospitality was evident. I wish to extend my sincere appreciation to the Martha’s Vineyard Preservation Trust, Liz Villard and the Rotary, Island Food Products, Edgartown Stop & Shop, Vineyard Cash & Carry, the Edgartown business community for supporting our placemat campaign, the Ecumenical Youth Group and their advisors, Jeff & Alison Enos, all the volunteers from the United Methodist Church of Martha’s Vineyard, and to Walter and Judy Bunge for your years of faithful dedication to this outreach ministry.

A heartfelt thank you goes to the following, known affectionately as “The Crew”: Sofia Anthony, Ethel Chapman, Jean Bishop, Jeannette Johnson, Sandra Blythe, Kevin McFarland, Edson & Norma Rodgers, and Philip and Jane Dietterich. May you all have a wonderful summer.
