The Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School (MVRHS) junior class and guests will kick up their heels on prom night, Saturday, May 12, at the Edgartown Yacht Club from 6-10 pm.
“It’s a major tradition here at the high school, and it’s a wonderful night that’s going to have lasting memories for all the students,” Principal Steve Nixon said in a phone call with The Times yesterday. “We just ask that the students be thoughtful and extra careful and that they make it a night of making the right decisions.”
As a safety precaution, students will be subject to a mandatory breathalyzer tests before entering the Yacht Club.
The Martha’s Vineyard SafeRides program will extend its hours to operate from 10 pm to 4 am on prom night. Although not affiliated with MVRHS, the student-run organization gives rides home, no questions asked, to Island teens who find themselves without transportation or in uncertain or unsafe situations.
The SafeRides telephone number is 508-939-9100.
