Edgartown

The sun certainly came out for Memorial Day weekend, and quite unexpectedly, according to all weather reports. Red-and-white checkered table clothes were spread under blue skies on the holiday as we honored our country’s fallen men and women. Thank you to all those in the services, and to the families who support them. Your sacrifice and bravery never cease to amaze.

The birthdays and anniversaries have just been pouring in lately. Timmy Fullin celebrated his birthday May 13, Kristina Ivory celebrated May 27, and Jimmy LeBarre celebrated May 30th. Jesse and Arielle Hayes toasted nine years of marriage on May 24, while on the same day, across Edgartown, Paul and Linda Condlin toasted 32 years. Must be a lucky day for weddings.

Margaret Rankow spent her birthday, May 20, on a whale watch with her family. According to daughter Melanie, they saw many different kinds of whales, the names of which she quickly spouted off. So evidently, in addition to fun had by all, it was clearly an educational experience.

Speaking of Rankows, friends and family gathered on Sunday to fete Tim and Jennifer Klein (nee Rankow) in their new home. The two officially moved into their beautifully renovated pad about a month ago. I’m sure these festivities were the first of many great times to be had in this happy place. If it is any indicator of the good vibes there, I found two four-leaf clovers right outside their door.

Congratulations to Ashley Gilbert on the opening of her new boutique in Vineyard Haven. Free Bird Market, located at 29 Main Street, is a boho-chic resale marketplace selling brand-name and vintage apparel, accessories, and home accents. Ashley’s eye for design led her to create leeleedesigns in 2005 in Connecticut. What started as a distinctive line of wooden handbags selling in top boutiques across the country and in Europe evolved into captivating wall art and home decor. Moving to the Vineyard year-round in 2010 with her husband and two children, she was admitted into the Artisans Festivals in 2011. Ashley’s art is available at the Artisans Summer Festivals at the Grange Hall and at Free Bird Market. For more info, contact Ashley at a.kgilbert@yahoo.com, or 203-727-4823.

Happy birthday to Duzza McCarron, who celebrates May 31. I won’t tell Edgartown how old you are, because I can’t count that high. To Edgartown Column sweetheart Hilary Grannis, hope you enjoy your day on June 2. I’m sure you will do something fabulous, about which you will report to me for next week. Denise Searle celebrates her day June 3. I hope the sun is shining so maybe you can hit the beach. Finally, happy birthday to Kate Conde on June 4. Enzo and Charlie will be saving up ear licks and snuggles for next time we see you.
