Island skeet shooters regularly travel to the mainland to compete in club shoots around New England. On Sunday, June 3, Spider Andresen and Bob Merry of Chilmark, Matt Gamache of Vineyard Haven, Vito Palermo of Edgartown, and Dick Carlson of Oak Bluffs excelled at a registered shoot at the Old Colony gun club in Pembroke.

Mr. Merry broke 100 straight of 100 targets with 12 gauge and 91 with 20 gauge for an overall total of 191 to win in the class C division. Mr. Andresen and Mr. Gamache, also class C, tied for second place. Mr. Carlson shot a 94 with his 12 gauge and 89 with his 20 gauge in D class for 183 out of a combined 200 targets to win his class. Mr. Merry finished third overall.

"It was just nice to have so many people from the Vineyard do well," Mr. Carlson said.
