Tisbury firefighters extinguished an oven fire on Sunday in a house at 85 Stoney Hill Road, off Edgartown-Vineyard Haven Road in the vicinity of Thimble Farm. There were no injuries and damage was minor, Tisbury Fire Chief John Schilling said.

Firefighters responded quickly to the 11 am report of a possible house fire. The home owners, Diane and Clem Levin, were home at the time and called 911.

“The fire was quickly contained by the first arriving company,” Chief Schilling said. “It was an accidental stove/oven fire. No one was hurt or transported to the hospital. Damage was contained to just the stove/oven itself and some smoke within the house — residual smell from smoke damage.”

Sunday was windy and dry. The entire volunteer fire department, EMS, and Tisbury police answered the call.

“There were no major problems, other than we were challenged by access, as that stretch of dirt road is horrendous,” Chief Schilling told The Times Monday. “One truck suffered damage underneath because of the poor condition of the road. The town mechanic worked on the truck yesterday and got it back in service.”
