Hauling for gold

The M.V. Cub Scouts entered two chuckwagons in this year’s Chuckwagon Derby held at the Barnstable County Fairgrounds on May 22, part of a weekend of scouting activities, including camping. In the Derby, scouts pull a chuckwagon to several stations, called towns, and complete tasks that require teamwork, good sportsmanship, and scout spirit.

Some 50 chuckwagons were entered in this year’s Derby, but there was only one winner — number 90-1, chartered by the Edgartown Fire Department — manned by Vineyard scouts Kai Rose, Trip Hopkins, Solon Oliver, Gregory Clark, Camden Emery, Michael Courtney, and Nathan Lopez-Mata.
