Girls’ basketball team remains unbeaten

The Martha’s Vineyard girls’ fifth grade travel basketball team won their fourth and fifth games played at Bourne Middle School last weekend and remain undefeated at 5-0.

The young Islanders defeated Barnstable in no uncertain terms, 43-12. Molly deBettencourt led all scorers with 17 points. Devin Hill added an even dozen more.

The other weekend game was with a stubborn Sandwich squad. At the half Sandwich led by a point, 7-6.

But in the second half the Islanders broke out of their lethargy and ran away to a 22-14 result. Molly deBettencourt and Devin Hill finished the game with seven points each. Both Megan Sawyer and Kat Roberts added four.

One up, one down for 7th grade girls

The 7th grade girls travel team played two games in the Oak Bluffs gym last week, losing to Falmouth, 48-40 despite having a 10-point advantage at the half.

Erin Hill was outstanding at both ends of the court accounting for 16 of the MV points. Mya Houston, Caitlin Marchand, and Samantha Hargy contributed six points apiece.

The second game was with Bourne and the Islanders had little trouble running off with a 39-15 victory.

The MV 7th graders travel team is 4-2 on the season.
