Bulls, Heat lead RCBL playoffs

The RCBL playoffs got underway Monday night at the Martha’s Vineyard Boys and Girls Club in Edgartown with a rout and a 10-point comeback.

The Bulls and the Heat were the two top teams in the regular season. True to form, they outplayed their competition in the opening of the best-of-three semi-final series.

The Bulls overturned a 54-50 Suns halftime lead with a 44-17 run in the third quarter. The final score was 124-100.

Brant Silvia poured in 37 points for the winners. Other Bulls in double figures were Asil Cash (33 points), James Rolston (19), Damon Mello (13), and Ryan Kurth (11).

Adam Rebello led the Suns offense with 24 points. He also started the game with five straight three-pointers. Suns players Mike Baptiste (22 points), Sterling Bishop (20), Matt Brown (18), and Luke Bettencourt (14) were also strong on the court.

The second contest of the evening between the Heat and Lakers was a terrific basketball game.

The Lakers built a 10-point lead through three quarters. In the final period, the Heat slowly started to chip away at that lead. With eight minutes to play, Tim Scott and Jason Dyer suddenly caught fire and racked up 29 points and six treys between them.

Tim Scott popped a jumper to finally put the Heat ahead 90-89 with three minutes to play. Jeff LaBell put the Lakers back in front. Then, Tim Scott hit his fourth three-pointer of the quarter to make it 93-91 and the defending champs went on to win 100-91.

Tim Scott led all scorers with 30 points and piled up eight three-pointers. Jason Dyer and Clark Agnew each scored 21 for the Heat. Sandy Fisher added 10.

Heath Estrella and Jeff LaBell led the Lakers with 23 points each. Noah Hazelton and Jared Silvia scored 14 apiece. Jay O’ Donnell chipped in 12 points.

Game two of the semi-finals is next Monday at the Boys and Girls Club. The Lakers and Heat meet at 6:15pm. The Bulls and Suns play at 8pm.
