West Tisbury police will seek drunk-driving charges against two people, after separate single car accidents last week.

On Thursday, February 17, at 2:30 pm, police responded to an accident near the intersection of New Lane Road and Tiah’s Cove Road. They found a 1996 Dodge Ram pickup truck capsized and resting on its roof.

From evidence at the scene, police determined the driver was on the right side of the road when he lost control of the vehicle, which went to the left side of the road, up an embankment and rolled over, according to the police report.

When they arrived, Charles Downs, 67, of West Tisbury was standing outside the truck, according to police. He told police another driver cut in front of his vehicle, but police said there was no evidence of that at the scene.

Mr. Downs refused medical treatment from a Tri-Town ambulance crew that responded to the scene. The West Tisbury Fire Department also responded because of fluids leaking from the damaged vehicle.

Police will summons Mr. Downs to court, seeking charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, negligent operation of a vehicle, and marked lane violations.

On Friday, February 18, Tisbury police and the Tisbury ambulance responded to a report of a car that hit a tree on Lambert’s Cove Road about 9:15 pm.

The ambulance crew transported the driver, Nancy K. Clark, 49, of Oak Bluffs to Martha’s Vineyard Hospital for medical treatment.

The location of the accident was in West Tisbury, so that department handled the investigation.

Police said they would summons Ms. Clark to court to seek charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, and a marked lanes violation.
