Alex Nagi is the executive chef at the Martha’s Vineyard Chowder Company in Oak Bluffs. In addition to their award-winning chowder, the Chowder Company offers a raw bar, small plates, and main courses featuring fresh New England seafood. Here is what Chef Nagi had to say about cooking and eating.

What’s your favorite ingredient right now?

Good attitude is my favorite ingredient, always has been and always will be. If you have a happy kitchen with a team of people that bring the right attitude to work, then there’s no ceiling on what you can accomplish.

What is your most memorable meal?

My first date with my wife in 2001. The food at The Ice House was great, but my company was better.

Kitchen tool you can’t live/cook without?

My box of XXXL gloves.

Where in the world would you most like to travel, in the name of food?

I’d actually like to take a trip across the United States in a big mobile home with my restaurant partner, JB Blau. We’d stop at every place that he raves about on The Food Network to see if they’re worth raving about!

What’s for dinner when you have less than 15 minutes to make it?

That would include every meal I make these days, so just come into the Chowder Company and I’ll show you.
