A new and long-awaited health care contract between Martha’s Vineyard Hospital (MVH) and the Providence VA Medical Center (VAMC) is the subject of a public information meeting for local veterans Wednesday.
The October 3 meeting from 5 to 6:30 pm at the American Legion Post 257 in Vineyard Haven will provide details about health care services offered under the contract.
Representatives from the Providence VAMC and the Veterans Benefits Administration regional office will attend the meeting to provide information the new contract and to answer questions.
The Providence VAMC announced on September 18 that it had awarded a contract to MVH to provide basic medical services to eligible Island veterans. The new contract, which goes into effect on October 3, will enhance care to eligible veterans on the Island to include basic lab work and diagnostic imaging on the Island without the need for pre-approval, according to a VA press release. Veterans will still have to travel to the Providence VAMC or the Boston Health Care System for specialty care and services in most cases, the VA said.
