On Saturday, September 21, a group of volunteers led by Michael Dello Russo collected trash on Oak Bluffs beaches from the Steamship Authority Wharf to Inkwell Beach. In addition to Mr. Dello Russo, six community members offered their time on the sunny September Saturday. They were Dan Ennis, Marnie Gauley, Sheppie Moore, and Shelley Christiansen, all of Oak Bluffs, and Joe and Karen Kaufman of Edgartown. In total, the group picked up five bags of trash. Mr. Dello Russo says he normally collects around 12 on his annual cleanup day, but thanks to the Polar Bears, who collected trash every Tuesday in July and August, the harvest was down. Mr. Dello Russo thanked the M.V. Cafe and Bakery for fueling participants with donuts and coffee.
