The Martha’s Vineyard Squirt B (MV 1) and C teams (MV 2) will compete January 10-12 at the MV Arena in the annual Ryan Mone Memorial youth hockey tournament. The Vineyard B’s won the tournament for the first time last season and will skate against the Starhawks (Milford), Lower Cape and Nantucket, while the C’s host the Starhawks, Tri-Valley (Bellingham) and Tri-County (Mansfield).
The action gets underway Friday night with MV 2 skating against Tri-Valley at 6:10 pm and MV 1 facing-off with the Starhawks at 7:20 pm. Saturday, each team plays twice. MV 2 plays the Starhawks at 8:10 am and Tri-County at 4:10 pm. MV 1 takes to the ice in the evening, playing Lower Cape at 6:30 and Nantucket at 7:40.
The Squirt C consolation game will be Sunday at 7 am, followed by the championship game at 8:10 am. The Squirt B consolation game is 9:20 am, while the championship game is set for 10:30 am.
Ryan Mone was a member of the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School hockey team when he died in a car crash in 1998.
Free skate, ArtCliff food, music on Saturday night
In conjunction with the Ryan Mone Memorial tournament this weekend at the MV Arena, Mone Insurance will sponsor free public skating and free skate rentals this Saturday night from approximately 8:30 to 10:30 pm. Music will be provided and best of all, the ArtCliff food truck will be dishing out great food at discounted prices at the rink at the Saturday night skate and during the tournament.
