To the Editor:
The main reason Stop & Shop is trying to expand to the proposed size, covering every inch of its lot, is not because it needs the space but because the space is there, apparently for the taking. That appears to be the mentality of large corporations: push to the max.
If they actually filled the entire complex, they would infringe on all of our local businesses. The supposed “grocery store” restraints would be ignored, and we’d be left without town shops, pollution from cars, trucks, and runoff, and virtually no way to get in and out of town because of the traffic.
And who are they, anyway, to dominate our major lifeline to and from the Island?
