To the Editor:
Looking forward to the Chilmark showing of the movie concerning the fall of Saigon (July 3, “Social issues reign at Chilmark Film Festival”). Unfortunately, Saigon fell in 1975, not 1973 which is when U.S. troops left under what was termed, “honorable peace that did not betray our allies,” by Nixon.
For an Island paper overwhelmingly concerned with the baby boom generation and its saga, this fact checking omission is disappointing. What else is wrong in this paper?
Like they say, “he who does not understand history is bound to repeat it.” Oh right, we did that already.
