Dick Carlson of Oak Bluffs topped all shooters to win the Martha’s Vineyard Rod & Gun Club 17th Annual Klays for Kids Charity Skeet Shoot Sunday at the club skeet range in Edgartown. It was a repeat performance for Mr. Carlson, the 2013 winner, who shot 47 of 50 targets. Matt Tobin of Chilmark tied for second place in the event with a score of 46. Brian Welch of Oak Bluffs and Bill Shanok of Chilmark tied for third place
Each participant shot a minimum of two rounds of 25 targets, but was allowed to shoot as many additional rounds as he or she wanted. Their two best rounds of 25 targets was their final score. Each participant paid 25 cents per miss to $1 dollar per missed target, depending on their ability. The contest generated more than $350 for the club’s youth activities.
The club’s annual skeet championship is Sunday, August 12, followed by the trap championship on Sunday, August 17, and the first rimfire championship Saturday and Sunday, August 23–24. The public is invited to attend the meet, and refreshments are available throughout the day.
