The Edgartown planning board Tuesday unanimously approved with conditions an application for a special permit from developer Charles Hajjar, who wants to construct eight loft apartments in the Edgartown triangle business district. It was the fifth meeting on the project since the hearing began July 1.
Conditions include planting trees, limits on parking spaces to one per unit, a construction mitigation plan, and limiting rentals only to 12-month tenants.
Neighbors objected to the project, citing parking and traffic concerns, but those complaints found little traction with the planning board. In making their decision, planning board members cited the need for year-round rental housing.
Attorney Sean Murphy, who represented Mr. Hajjar, told The Times Wednesday, “We appreciate the patience and thoroughness of the planning board in reviewing the project and Mr. Hajjar looks forward to providing year-round rental housing for Islanders.”
