Dan Waters, development director of the Martha’s Vineyard Museum and a longtime resident of West Tisbury, will run for town meeting moderator in the town’s Nov. 4 special election.
Mr. Waters, who will be the only candidate on the ballot, is running to fill the position held by Pat Gregory for 23 years. In May, Mr. Gregory was murdered while vacationing in California. Hundreds mourned the tragic death at a memorial service at the Martha’s Vineyard Agricultural Society Hall in West Tisbury.
Mr. Waters has long been active in civic affairs, most recently leading the committee that raised funds for the new West Tisbury library. He currently serves as a library trustee.
He is also well-known as an author, poet, printmaker, and musician.
