The Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School cross-country team participated in the Eastern Mass State Division Championships on Saturday, November 8, at the Wrentham Developmental Center.

The boys and the girls teams finished 14th of 27 teams.

In the boys race, sophomore Aivaras Gedvilas led the way for the Vineyard, placing 26th overall with a time of 17:18 over the 5K course. His finish Saturday qualified him for the All State Finals to be held at Franklin Park in Boston on November 15.

Patrick Best (68) and Nate D’Angelo (91) also placed in the top 100 for the Vineyard. Dan Gaines, Ethan Lefebvre, Serogia Bernier and Otto Osmers were close behind. A total of 189 boys competed.

For the girls, Pearl Vercruysse ran 20:55, her best time of the year, and finished 35th. Julia Neville (43), Mary McCarthy (82) and Sabrina Reppert (92) all finished in the top 100. Willow Wunsch, Autumn Richards and Emma Reimer also competed for the Vineyard. A total of 168 girls competed in the race.
