Sunday last was perfect for working in the yard in preparation for winter. With the help of my grandchildren, the wood box is filled, as is the kindling basket. Air conditioners are in the attic until needed next summer, and hoses are put away until spring. The window screens are stored in the attic and of course now we have had a brief warm spell and I can’t open the windows without inviting moths and spiders in. But this Monday, as I am writing this column, the wind and thunderstorms are predictors of cold weather approaching. I guess we are ready for whatever comes, unless it is snow and ice, so I must prepare for that too before it arrives.
