To the Editor:

Three weeks ago I went to the Cape Cod Hospital for an angiogram after doing poorly on a recent stress test. It was determined that I had major blockage in three arteries, one in the rear of my heart. This was more than a shock to me since that weekend I had walked 36 holes of golf and was cutting grass and raking leaves. I had no real symptoms of the blockage other than a little shortness of breath. I was a walking time bomb.

Thanks to the cardiac department of the Cape Cod Hospital, led by surgeon Paul Pirundini, I am now on the mend after triple bypass surgery. Dr. Pirundini’s team are all from Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. I can’t say enough good things about the whole staff of the hospital, from the ICU nurses to the staff in the recovery ward. They treated me like a person with respect, and not just a number; even the food was acceptable.

If you find yourself in this situation and you have to choose a hospital, bigger is not always better, Dr. Pirundini and his team is one that is really making a name for themselves.

I’m the luckiest guy around
