Edgartown Police are telling drivers to avoid Upper Main Street between the Triangle and Chase Street in the vicinity of Donaroma’s and Sharky’s due to a water main break Monday morning that flooded the road.
Edgartown Police Chief Tony Bettencourt told The Times that only one lane inbound is now open. Work crews have begun pumping water from the street as they begin the process of trying to identify the location of the break and assess the extent to which the leak undermined the roadway.
A temporary road had been created on the shoulder of the roadway but it is not suitable for heavy traffic. Chief Bettencourt said he expects work crews to be busy all day.
