To the Editor:

I read Peter Cabana’s letter on alternate power (“Support for solar and wind needed,” Feb. 5, 2015) with great interest. In 2013, I took the train from Berlin to Prague, and then later to Vienna. I was amazed at the number of wind farms I saw along the routes. It amounted to hundreds of towers scattered all over. I suspect like the Dutch windmills, once a utilitarian eyesore, these will in time become endearing landmarks of a bygone era. I think it’s time to come to grips with reality. Judging from recent news on fusion reactors, there isn’t going to be cheap, safe power in a bottle in the near future. We’ve got wind and the sun, both viable competitors to stinky pollution, and that’s it. One man’s aesthetics is another man’s lifeline.

I wrote e-letters to our state senator and representative, as provided by Peter Cabana. Unfortunately, they were both permanently undeliverable. The correct e-addresses are    Daniel.Wolf@masenate.govand timothy.madden@mahouse.gov. I hope there is enough interest in alternate power to encourage people to read Mr. Cabana’s letters, let the impact sink in, and contact our legislature for some timely assistance.

I doubt if any successor to NSTAR could be anything but an improvement.
